Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is a non-auditioned chorus, but there are three essential skills necessary for every singer who participates: 1) the ability to keep a steady beat, 2) the ability to match pitch & sing in tune, and 3) the ability to balance and blend with other voices in the ensemble.  We welcome all who want to sing, share these core musical values, and are committed to striving for artistic excellence.

  • There are different levels of music reading ability. Some singers know basic rhythmic values, can follow the direction of notes when they change, and understand steps vs. leaps even though they may not be able to name a specific interval. Others know the names of every note, and fully understand accidentals, key signatures, time signatures, etc. Reading music at some level will certainly help you intake the material more efficiently and save precious rehearsal time. If you want to improve your music reading ability, just ask the director for some helpful resources.

  • Your chorus fee for the concert cycle can be broken up into two payments. Specific dates for the current concert cycle are listed in the Explanation of Fees section. If you need to make other arrangements due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the director.

  • Midlothian Men’s Chorus is not any of those things. We are a community chorus singing music that is artfully written/arranged for Tenor-Bass voices and designed for a concert setting. Though we are often hosted in church buildings for rehearsals and concerts, the group has no religious affiliation.

  • The black Midlothian Men’s Chorus concert shirt that you pay for with your new singer registration, khaki pants that you supply (see guidelines for pants here), and a brown belt & brown shoes that you supply.

  • Chorus Connection is a chorus management platform that we use to stay organized and communicate helpful information to our singers. Once registered for the chorus, you will receive login information and can create your profile. This is also the platform where electronic payments for fees can be made. Your information is never shared with other parties or used for non-chorus communications.
